With the midterms nearly upon us, I think about how in 2016, as always, Americans chose the least bad of two very imperfect candidates. In light of the Stormy Daniels scandal, how can the “family first” party still support Donald Trump, who we all just assume is guilty of whoremongering?
To answer this question, we must answer, what is our agenda? How does it differ from the Democrats’? What exactly is at stake?
I put it to you, the stakes involved in the ongoing 2-party struggle is for the very survival of our nation, and of our children. With this in mind, supporting the GOP makes as much as accepting the assistance of a known adulterer against a gang of murderers who have broken into your home. While we can condemn our leaders’ moral failings, the greater need is for our safety.
The following is a comparison of the two parties’ words and actions. The conservative versus liberal agenda is, in ascending importance—
1- National Sovereignty.
This comes first. Without it, we literally have no nation. Officially, in the GOP 2016 Platform, the GOP pledges to protect the most fundamental element of our sovereignty, our elections. Specifically, they criticize the Obama administration for,
“bullying of state and local governments in matters [including] voter identification….the presence of millions of unidentified individuals in this country poses grave risks to the safety and sovereignty of the United States.”
The word “sovereign” or “sovereignty” appears 16 times[1] in the GOP official platform, mostly in reference to the USA. In terms of actions, let’s remember that President Trump has a policy of standing up to international entities such as NATO, the UN, and NAFTA.
By contrast, the words “sovereign” or “sovereignty” appears only four times in the official Democrat 2016 Platform, but only in reference to the Ukraine, Indian tribes, and Palestine. Read this sentence twice: The Democrat 2016 Platform refers to US sovereignty exactly ZERO times. The word “borders” appears only three times, once in reference to Ukraine, once for Palestine, and once about how the US must be open to international policies. Worsening the case are the words of Hillary Clinton, uttered in secret to Brazilian banking executives, exposed by Wikileaks, that she dreams of a, “hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders.” A majority of democrats support voting rights for illegals. Let’s also remember how Obama tried to surrender the internet to international governance and surrender more rights to the TTP and TTIP, which Trump thankfully stopped.
2- National Security
The most obvious sign of the GOP’s commitment to security has to be most popular chant of the ’16 election: “BUILD THE WALL.” While we’re still waiting for congress to fund the wall we voted for, the good news is illegal immigration dropped 76% in 2017, as if all we needed was a president who would enforce our laws. Let’s turn again to the official GOP platform, which states,
“We are the party of peace through strength… Tyranny and injustice thrive when America is weakened. The oppressed have no greater ally than a confident and determined United States, backed by the strongest military on the planet….”
Considering ISIS lost 93% of its territory since Trump replaced Obama, those words seem justified. Ending the funding that Obama sent to unreliable Syrian rebels probably helped. Let’s also remember that North Korea has ceased firing missiles over Japan since Trump helped to forge a new relationship between the DPRK and South Korea. Plus, despite all the Russia-collusion hysteria, in everything but rhetoric Trump has been much tougher on Russia than Obama ever was, including expanded sanctions, expelling diplomats, retaliatory strikes on their ally Syria, and scrapping the disastrous Iran Nuclear deal.
Contrast that with President Obama’s handing over 1.7 billion dollars in cash in the dead of night over to the terrorist linked government of Iran, who also captured a US Navy ship in 2016. There was Obama’s failure to enforce his own “red-line” policy in Syria. Many believe Obama’s weakness led to North Korea’s boldness in developing their nuclear weapons, but let’s not forget that Democrats Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter gave nuclear material to the hermit kingdom in the first place. Before the Dems fabricated a Russia-collusion story, they were quite easy on them, like when Obama called them a regional player a little over a year before Russia invaded Ukraine. Even worse, Hillary Clinton signed off on handing 20% of US uranium to Russia while the Clinton Foundation received more than 40 million dollars from Uranium One affiliates. You can read the three and a half pages on national security in the official Democratic platform if you want, versus the 13 pages in the GOP platform. But, if you want to save time it’s mostly empty promises and hand-wringing about how scared they were of Donald Trump.
3- Protecting the Preborn
This comes third only because if we don’t have sovereignty or security, we won’t be able to protect even our most secure citizens, let alone our most defenseless. I doubt even most pro-life people realize how vast this tragedy is. The CDC reports there have been more than 60 million abortions since Roe V Wade. That’s more than seven New York Cities of aborted babies, or ten times more than Jews killed in the Holocaust. In fact, abortion is the leading cause of death in the USA. You read the right. More than cancer, more than heart disease, Americans die from abortion more than any other cause. Also, notice that abortion is responsible for more than 61% of all Black and Hispanic deaths in the USA. Remember, only 1.3% or less of abortions are done in instances of rape, incest, or to protect the mother’s health. Most abortions are done for reasons like worrying about finances or relationship problems. Sadly, the GOP is not enough, but certainly better than the Dems. In 2017, Trump pushed a bill to cut funding to Planned Parenthood. Also, he has seated Judge Gorsuch on the Supreme Court who has a history of defending the preborn, and hopefully will seat Judge Kavanaugh who has the support of pro-life groups. To be honest, no one is sure how these judges might rule on pro-life cases. The conservative base needs to be more aggressive with this uncomfortable, but drastically urgent cause.
On the other hand, both of the Democrat frontrunners for the ’16 election, Clinton and Sanders, voted against the partial-birth abortion ban in ’03. That’s when a fully developed baby is pulled out of its mother feet first, and its brain is sucked out through a tube. While, the GOP platform calls for, “a human life amendment to the Constitution and legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to children before birth,” the Democrats state the opposite: “that every woman should have access to quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion.” I might be surprised at the existence of conspiracy theories about Satanists running the Democratic party, except for the fact they demand literal child sacrifice as a right.
4- Traditional Values
It’s tempting to quote the entire first four paragraphs of the GOP’s platform on values. In short, it declares,
“Families, schools, congregations, neighborhoods…. create spaces where the power of government should not intrude…. That is precisely why today’s progressives distrust and seek to control them — because this is more than a conflict of ideas. It is a struggle for power…. [The American family] is the foundation of civil society, and the cornerstone of the family is natural marriage, the union of one man and one woman… Cooperation, patience, mutual respect, responsibility, self-reliance … strong families, depending upon God and one another, advance the cause of liberty by lessening the need for government in their daily lives.”
The platform says Republicans make all policy with the family in mind. Considering President actions like Trump’s 3.2 trillion in gross tax cuts to families and doubling the tax credit, his push to promote school choice and deregulate schools, defending the right to choose health care, his 675 million dollars to fight the opioid crisis, and his protecting free speech for religious institutions, all in spite of Democrat obstruction, it’s clear the GOP values are American values.
Meanwhile, Democrats are attacking our right to follow our religious convictions, allowing drugs to flow through our porous borders, kowtowing to Big Pharma, pushing ill-conceived authoritarian public school agendas like common core, and refusing to acknowledge tax cuts work. Virtually every reference to “family” in their platform is about how the government needs to provide for every citizens every need, kind of like a parent, or maybe a slave owner. They do indirectly refer to “God,” three times, (versus 16 times in the GOP platform,) but only in terms recognizing every human’s God-given potential contrary to the perceived malice of the hateful racist, sexist, homophobic conservatives they see everywhere they look. When they write about responsibility, it’s about our responsibility to pay all the taxes they demand. And, while it’s not part of their official platform, let’s remember this is the party which worships Hollywood and the liberal media, which works every day to normalize pedophilia, demonize whites and men, and promote socialism.
5- Our livelihood
In other words, our economy. In the two years since the GOP took the White House, the economy has done so well that Obama tried to take credit for it. The truth is the economy is booming because the GOP understands its right place, as stated in their platform:
“Government cannot create prosperity… [it] is the product of self-discipline, enterprise, saving and investment by individuals…. [it] provides the means by which citizens… can maintain their independence from government, raise their children by their own values, practice their faith, and build communities…. It is also the foundation for our nation’s global leadership… our military strength and our national security.”
Under President Trump the USA has seen surging GDP growth, lowest joblessness claims in half a century, added 5 trillion to the stock market, added 322,000 manufacturing jobs, 337,000 construction jobs…. The list goes on and on. Who else remembers how the liberal media predicted a world economy crash under Trump back in ’16? Almost as if they expected us to take their word for it.
The Democratic platform puts their economic philosophy this way: “We must break down all the barriers holding Americans… higher wages, workplace protections, policies to balance work and family, and other investments will help rebuild the middle class.” Of course, the higher wages aren’t expected to come from more efficiency, but by artificially raising the, “federal minimum wage to $15 an hour,” a practice known to cause more problems than it solves. How about “workplace protections?” That turns out to mean the, “right to organize and join unions,” which is important to Democrats because they have a longstanding votes-for-power deal with the Unions. That wouldn’t be so bad, if it weren’t known that Unions use their power to fleece even non-Union members with unethical laws. As for “family,” that means using taxpayer money for, “national paid family and medical leave,” i.e. forcing you to pay for other people’s expenses. The Democrat platform uses the word “prosperity” once in reference to raising taxes on US citizens, once in reference to feminism, and four times in reference to other countries—not the US. The word “Individual” is used primarily to justify greater powers for the state, never in reference to independence or “self-discipline,” which, of course, appears zero times. But, how about the performance of the Democrats over the last eight years? It’s very telling that Obama told us to not even hope for a booming economy. Unsurprising, considering he never hit 3% annual GDP growth, had historic poverty levels, dismal labor participation, floundering entrepreneurialship… we all remember, the Obama presidency was one harbinger of doom headline after another.
There are more reasons why Democrats must be stopped, from their selective outrage over protecting women, their opposition to free speech and the right to self-defense, the list goes on and on. I hope this article has presented you with enough information to convince you, voting GOP isn’t voting for the lesser of two evils. It’s voting against evil, for the objective good. (Title quote: Charles Spurgeon)
[1] Another excellent reference to US sovereignty, “The legitimate powers of government are rooted in the consent of the American people. Judicial activism that includes reliance on foreign law or unratified treaties undermines American sovereignty. Foreign laws and precedents should not be used to interpret our Constitution or laws, nor should foreign sources of law be used in state courts’ adjudication of criminal or civil matters.”
